The Lansdowne Club

Built in 1763, Lansdowne House became a social club in 1935. Unlike its contemporaries,The Lansdowne Club has admitted men and women with equal social status since its doors opened. Located in Mayfair, it is considered one of the most exclusive and traditional private members' clubs in London.

Challenge

To re-position the club as a contemporary private members’ club and grow membership through attracting new and younger members.

Activation

Having led a re-branding of the club’s identity, I focused on the most important communication tool for the club - the quarterly printed magazine. Knowing that we had a very eminent membership base, I reached out to seek talented members who would be willing to be part of the editorial team.

Success

  • Attracted graphic designers from Royal College of Art, renown food writer & critic, professional writers from The Times and broadcasting

  • Managed the editorial team; set and met deadlines; sought and gained advertisements; negotiated editorial features; liaised with all internal clubs for input; wrote content for Reciprocal Club features and letter from Editor; proof read; managed production, print and distribution

  • Turned the magazine from fusty, dated Journal to one with look and feel of a modern magazine

  • Gained acclaim from members and board alike
